Depth Charge Explosion

Monday, October 16th, 2006

ExplosionThis is a video of a depth charge explosion. They’ve certainly gotten a lot more powerful than they were in those old World War II movies. The black dust is from a sunken WWII barge filled with 10 tons of explosives.

Phone

I’ve heard various ways of dealing with telemarketers, but this one is definitely the funniest. Warning: some of the language is NSFW.

Just Where Is The “Any” Key?

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Keyboard

The “Any” key has been a tech support legend for quite some time now, right up there with the CD drive as a drink holder. Some people have made fake images, and at least one company sells them. What I find most surprising, however, is that Compaq actually has a FAQ entry on the subject.

Table

This is an interesting table, but wouldn’t it be easier just to keep a gun in the drawer? That’s what my parents did when we lived in Wyoming.

The Dr. Seuss School of Unorthodox Taxidermy

Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss made authentic-looking taxidermy sculptures of some of his creations. He used real animal parts to make them realistic. The Blue Green Abelard is my favorite.

Is it graffiti when you don’t use any paint but merely clean select portions of a dirty surface?

How It Should Have Ended

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Movies

If you haven’t seen it before, the “How It Should Have Ended” web site has short, animated videos of how various movies should have ended. There are quite a few that I don’t particularly like (e.g., ‘Saving Private Ryan‘), but the ‘Lord of the Rings‘ and ‘Star Wars‘ clips are hysterical (and ‘Superman‘ isn’t too bad either).

Football Shutout Means Free Furniture

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

ShopperA furniture store in Plano, Illinois held a promotion over the Labor Day weekend: If the Chicago Bears shut out the Green Bay Packers on their opening day football game, then any furniture purchased during the holiday weekend would be free. The final score was 26-0, and there were a lot of happy people after the game.

Neat Pavement Drawings

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

ArtThis artist creates anamorphic illusions—drawings that appear to be three-dimensional from a certain point of view. He makes them on public sidewalks. This one is my favorite, while I think this one looks the most realistic.
