Red Spot Carnival Game Online

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Red SpotEver played that (extremely difficult) carnival game where you have to completely cover a red circle with five metal disks? As I recall, it was a great way to waste money. All is not lost, however, because there is an online version where you can refine your skills. After quite a bit of practice, I solved it, and am able to repeat it on a fairly consistent basis. Note that the white line around the gray circle counts as part of the circle.

Dew-covered Dragonfly

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

DragonflyHere at the Chad’s News network command center, we spent the weekend installing a fresh copy of Windows, and re-installing and re-configuring all the applications that go with it. So today’s entry requires no thought or explanation—it’s just a neat picture of a dragonfly drenched with dew.

Now THAT’S a Shotgun

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

ShotgunThe AA12 is a fully automatic, low recoil shotgun designed for military use, particularly urban warfare. The video goes to great lengths to show just how destructive it is, but then they add shells containing winged grenades and other types of explosives—with a range of nearly 200 yards. It would almost be worth going back into the military if I could use one of these.

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

SpaceThis March an astronaut will test a boomerang inside the international space station, to see if it will work in zero gravity. What an interesting experiment—it’s almost as good as the hammer and feather drop on the moon.

Superconducting Levitating Train

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

ScientistThis video shows a model train that uses a superconductor to levitate over a magnetic track. The only thing slowing it down is air resistance. My favorite part is when he turns the track upside down and it makes no difference.
